Temperatures are set to plunge by 11C this week and there could also be snow in some places. It is going to be mild up until midweek, but from Wednesday onwards it is to turn very cold, windy and showery with temperatures dropping to -3C in some places.
Below are some tips to prepare your home and property for the cold winter weather:
Check your heating:
Check your heating system to make sure everything is in order. It is recommended to get your boiler serviced and also to bleed your radiators.
By cleaning out your gutters it reduces the chance of them overflowing. It also prevents them from freezing if temperatures drop, avoiding further damage.
Your fire place may not have been used in the last few months, therefore it can be a good idea to have the chimney cleaned before starting to light the fire for these winter months.
Trim Surrounding Trees:
By trimming back bushes, small trees and branches can avoid damage being caused to your property during a storm or high winds.
